Discrimination

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim..

Yeah I have just found this suitable word for thing that has been joking by Ustazah  Mahaya Manap last Thursday (ohh I should contact her for my upcoming project after graduated Insyaallah) while reading an article for my ethics final examination tomorrow.

According to Oxford Advanced Learner' s Dictionary, discrimination is described as:
1. the practice of treating something or a particular group in society less fairly than others (because of age/ racial/ sex/ sexual discrimination)
2. the ability to judge what is good, true, etc.
3. the ability to recognize a difference between one thing and another.

On the other hand, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) define discrimination (or diskriminasi in Malay) as:
1. layanan yg berbeza-beza terhadap kaum yg berlainan kerana beranggapan bahawa terdapat keadaan tidak seimbang dr segi kemahiran, kebolehan, keistimewaan hak dsb. (kaum)
2. perihal atau perbuatan mengenakan harga yg berbeza-beza bagi barang atau perkhidmatan yg sama kpd pembeli yg berlainan. (harga)
3. perihal membeza-bezakan seseorang dr segi kedudukannya dlm masyarakat;(social)
4. layanan yg berbeza-beza terhadap kaum yg berlainan kerana prasangka terhadap kemahiran, kebolehan, keistimewaan hak dsb; (kaum)

People have generally agreed that discrimination is an unjust act of treating others based on their status, abilities, sex, racial and other standards. Of course, in some situations we hate this to  happen in our society and to us (especially) but in reality this is not the case. Perhaps we also practice it sometimes unconsciously  towards other people that we face everyday.

Fair and balance is very subjective things to measure. The same goes to feelings like love, hate, sad and happy. Different people interpret them in different ways in light of their own values and life experiences. Nonetheless, there are rules and code of conduct made by human and/or in line by our religion teaching that can be used by us as  guidelines.

I sometimes wondering, we always asking for our rights and justice, but do we actually know our rights and do we stand at the right place? Yeahh sometimes the answer is obviously and logically there for us to stand up, but in some situations it is better for us to keep silent while there is no way for consensus (maybe applicable to things that are not related to our aqidah).

haha.. I remember the ustazah said to us,
"Kalau Ahmad Maslan kata orang sekarang kena buat #2kerja dan berjimat, semua bising. Tapi cuba kalau mak ayah atau guru kita yang cakap mesti kita ambil je nasihat tu."
hahaha.. ada betulnya juga. Diskriminasi kita ni. Sekian.

So one of my #Azam2016 is to practice silent. Don't want to start argue with people anymore. Huh.. even I did it yesterday (damn). Oklah if the discussion or debates (that cannot be avoided) seems to have no end, I should be the one who give in and stop first. InsyaAllah. Pray for me!

Anyway, I like this quoting:
Kalau orang menghina kita, bukan kita terhina,
yang sebenarnya orang itu menghina dirinya sendiri.
Diam orang mukmin itu ibadah,
Ibadah tanpa perbuatan,
Ibadah rasa,
Ibadah ini tidak meletihkan,
Kadang-kadang ibadah ini lebih baik daripada ibadah sunat,
Yang hatinya didalam kelalaian,
Macamana orang mukmin itu diamnya menjadi ibadah?
Kadang-kadang memikirkan dosanya,
Kadang-kadang memikirkan apa kebaikan yang nak dibuat,
Kadang-kadang memikirkan nak menolong kawan,
Kadang-kadang dia terasa kebesaran Tuhan,
Atau dia meniatkan, dia diam itu,
Tidak mahu bercakap yang bukan-bukan,
Kadang-kadang dia diam itu,
kalau dia bercakap,
Takut dia melakukan kesalahan,
Seperti dia mengumpat atau,
Kalau dia bercakap, takut-takut menyakiti hati orang,
Ataupun mengingatkan ilmu pengetahuan,
Ataupun pengetahuan yang dilupakan datang semula ingatan,
Itulah yang dikatakan oleh pepatah Melayu,

“Diam-diam ubi berisi”
